META RESEARCH META-LASER CD PLAYER

THE META RESEARCH META-LASER CD PLAYER USER MANUAL WARNING This high quality CD player possess new technical features which are necessary for an accurate tracking of the today's best CDs. Only a careful use can provide all satisfactions you are expecting. All handling must be performed according to the following instructions to avoid to deteriorate the player. Nevertheless, if the instructions are perfectly carried out, you will notice that the use of the META RESEARCH LASER 1 CD player is quite simple and convenient. IMPORTANT : PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT ANY WIRE OR MOVE ANY PART BEFORE READING THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. THE META RESEARCH CD PLAYER META RESEARCH is a small Swiss company founded to design and produce high technology digital audio components o highest sonic quality, extreme ease of operation and at reasonable price. THE META-LASER CD TRANSPORT TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION - The META RESEARCH META-LASER CD Transport is based on the finest Philips CD-ROM mechanism. The company research team has significantly refined the mechanics for use in the META-LASER. - The top loading mechanism uses a "CD Clamp" constructed of metacrylate and gold-plated brass, based on the research made by GOLDMUND for record vibration cancellation. This innovative clamp considerably improves the rigidity and deadness of the CD during play. - The chassis of the unit uses a three foot suspended structure and displays a remarkably efficient use of "Mechanical Grounding" (under license from GOLDMUND), to further improve the evacuation of detrimental vibration modes. - Two outputs for external D/A converters are provided one coaxial and one optical fiber. - All functions of the transport can be remote-controlled, either by the provided small transmitter, or by the full META RESEARCH remote control system. - The external power supply provides three separate voltages fully independently regulated for each part of the circuitry. - Dimensions : 33 cm (W) x 33 cm (D) x 6.5 cm (H). THE META-CONVERT D/A CONVERTER TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION The converter circuitry of the META RESEARCH META-CONVERT is a domestic application of the famous GOLDMUND conversion circuitry used in the MIMESIS 10, and also used in STELLAVOX digital machines. Its linearity accuracy, signal to noise ratio, distortion level and phase response are without equivalent in the market. The output filter is especially exceptional in its performance. Designed in 18 stages, it allows a phase linearity within 5 degrees in the bandwidth. To make the META-CONVERT well protected against technological evolution the converter circuitry is built as a plug-in module that can be easily exchanged if the technology progress sufficiently for META RESEARCH to announce a better module. The converter circuit is implemented with a universal input interface, able to track all different frequencies of digital products (32kHz to 48kHz) automatically. The SPDIF interface circuit, especially developed by META RESEARCH, is without equivalent in the industry to protect the digital signal from added jitter error. Standard input by coaxial RCA plug is provided as well as an optical fiber termination of highest quality. The buffered audio output provides OdBm or 1.5V with 100 Ohm output impedance, allowing use of long leads without phase loss. To extend further the possibilities of the META RESEARCH META-CONVERT, an optional internal digital switching circuitry for up to 6 digital sources including CD, DAT, digital tuner or any other new digital source can be added. This option provides also a full digital tape loop switching capability for direct digital recording to DAT, maintaining the full quality of the original source. All switching facilities are available on the front panel of the unit or by remote control. Optional remote controlled volume and balance control to transform the META RESEARCH META-CONVERT in a real digital preamplifier. External power supply separate circuit for analogue and digital circuitry. Multiple internal voltage regulation. Dimensions : 33 cm (W) x 33 cm (D) x 5 cm (H) . META RESEARCH META-LASER CD PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND USE 1. PRELIMINARIES Please read very carefully the following instructions. This high-precision CD player will provide the best tracking conditions for today's high-quality CDs. For exacting technicians, musicians, and all those who demand the very best in recording transcription, we strongly recommend the use of our separate D/A converter, the META RESEARCH META-CONVERT. 2. UNPACKING You will find in the packing - the CD player itself, - the separate. Power Supply, - the accessories: - the CD clamp. - the remote-control transmitter. - this user manual. - the power cord. Unpack carefully the above-mentioned parts. Keep the whole packing for future use. WARNING: If you need to return the CD player to the factory or to your local representative for a warranty repair, please note that it must be repacked in the original packing, Otherwise new packing will be charged as well as the repair of damages occurred due to poor packing conditions. 3. POWER SUPPLY The META-LASER CD layer uses a power supply especially developed in collaboration with GOLDMUND for providing totally separate voltages to each part of the CD player circuitry. Your power supply unit has been internally wired to operate with the AC voltage of our area. Check on the power supply unit label in any doubt. If you move after purchasing the turntable to an area using different mains voltage, consult your local META RESEARCH dealer to modify your power supply unit. Every power supply can operate indifferently with 50 or 60 Hz AC line. To avoid any hum or vibration disturbance, put the power supply as far apart as possible from the CD player itself. Allow some clearance for air circulation around the power supply, as this unit, in normal use, generates some heat. 4. CHOICE OF CD PLAYER LOCATION Select a very rigid support for your CD player. Due to the specific quality of its mechanical construction, the META-LASER CD player is less critical than any other design in placement selection. Feedback is mostly so low that no special precaution is required. Nevertheless position the player as far as you can of the speakers if you want to totally avoid the air coupling between the speakers and the CD player. Select a position of the furniture where the player is set to have the most rigid possible position on the support. Solid coupling is essential, and if your support is standing on a suspended floor, optimal result requires that you arrange the support to gave at least one foot over a supporting beam or close enough from a supporting wall. Due to its "Mechanical Grounding" construction (under license by GOLDMUND), the META RESEARCH META-LASER CD player is also less sensitive than other CD players to vibration evacuation. It means the use of evacuation cones is less needed than with a normal type of CD player. 5. INSTALLATION Remove the 2 white nylon screws visible on the top panel of the CD player and locking the suspension. These screws are used only for transporting the unit. WARNING : Each time you have to move your META-LASER CD player, you have to lock these screws back in position. So keep them carefully in a safe place. Plug the power supply to the 9 pin connector on the back of he CD player. Tighten the locking screws. Only after this connection is well made, plug the AC power cord to the power supply and in a wall socket. Switch ON the unit by using the left switch on the front control panel. The unit lights up and two small dashes appear on the control panel LED Display. Lift the Plexiglas top cover up. Put a CD on the center axis and put the CD clamp on, holding it by its gold-plated center knob. Bring the cover down with care. The CD starts turning for a few seconds then stops. At this time the LED display indicates the number of tracks of your record. 6. KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS - TIME : Key used to modify the status of the LED display The display indicates either the time or the track index. - SELECT : Key used to program the selection of the tracks. Please refer to the Programming section of this manual. - PREV : Key used to go directly to the beginning of the previous cut of the record. When used with the 'Time" key, it allows the index selection. - F.REW : Key used for fast reverse search. This function has three progressive speeds when the key is kept pressed. - PAUSE : Key used for the pause function. When the. "Pause" function is switched off by pressing the "Start" key, the selection will start back at the exact location where it was interrupted. F.FWD : Key used for fast forward search. This function has three progressive speeds as the fast rewind function. - NEXT : Key used to go directly to the next cut. When used with the "Time" key, it allows index selection. - STOP : Stops the player. It also cancels all information in the programming memory. - PLAY : This key is used to start a record by the first track. It also cancels the "Pause" function. When pressed during a track, it starts again the same track. - REPEAT : This key is used to repeat the whole record after it is finished. This does not allow to repeat only a specific track. 7. PROGRAMMING The use of the "Select" key together with the "Prev" and "Next" keys allows the user to change the playing order of the various cuts of a record. The META-LASER allows the user to memorize up to 20 different cuts. However, the same cut cannot be present twice in the program selection. To select your program : - Put a record on the spindle and place the clamp. - Wait for the number of cuts to appear on the display. - Press the "Next" key until you reach the first cut of your selection. - Press the "Select" key. The 11P11 letter is displayed. - Press the "Next" or "Prev" key until you reach the second selection of your program. - Press "Select" again. A "P" letter is displayed again, indicating that he second selection has been memorized. - Repeat the operation until your program is totally built (max 20 cuts). - You can review your program by pressing again the "Select" key. When listening to a programmed cut, the "Next" and "Prev" keys act on the programmed cuts and not on the original sequence of the record. WARNING : The "Stop" key cancels all the information present in the program memory. 8. CLEANING Always disconnect the power cord from the wall socket before cleaning your CD player. To clean the metacrylate base of the player and the cover, you can use any specific cleaner for Plexiglas. Always use a very soft cloth to avoid to scratch the surface. The metacrylate can be cleaned very easily using the GOLDMUND CLEANER, available from your nearest META RESEARCH or GOLDMUND dealer. You can also use a soft cloth slightly wet if you have no specific cleaner available.
